Speakers at J&K Yateem Foundation 13th Commemoration Day Function call for creating effective check and balance mechanism for transparent,
accountable and result oriented social service activities.

Society must create an effective check and balance mechanism to ensure transparency, accountability and result oriented work on ground being undertaken by various credible social service organizations in the State.

This was stated by the speakers at the 13th Annual Day function of J&K Yateem Foundation, at D.A.V. Higher Secondary Institute Jawahar Nagar here on Sunday.

The speakers also emphasized the need to accord top priority to evolve value based on modern and quality education system with the support of academia and intelligentsia so that the orphan, poor and deserving meritorious students could be transformed into a productive human resource for the progress and prosperity of the society.

Dr. Syed Aabid Rashid Shah, IAS Assistant Collector, District Srinagar exhorted upon the people that they should come forward with the spirit to contribute positively for making these orphan and destitute children productive assets for overall socio-economic development. He called upon various social service organizations to benefit from the welfare programmes and schemes formulated by the Govt. He had been deputed by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar (Chief Guest Of Function) to attend the function as he had to leave the station in view of some urgent official engagement outside state.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Ghulam Qadir Lone while stressing the need to create a strong socio-economic self-reliant resource base called for channelizing the immense potential of the orphans putting up in various orphanages. He said this would open up opportunities for them to become the future scientists, technocrats, intellectuals and administrators of our state.

Justice (Retd) Bashir A. Kirmani, an eminent jurist said that it is the constitutional responsibility of the Govt. to implement various welfare and rehabilitation programmes and schemes meant for the deserving and weaker sections of the society, in letter and spirit. He said the society must develop culture of austerity so that the resources could be utilized for the welfare of the deserving people.

Chairman J&K Yateem Foundation Mohammad Rafiq Lone in his welcome speech made an appeal to all sections of society to come forward and extend their moral, material and intellectual support to this social cause.

Patron, JKYF Er. Syed Ab. Hamid in his presidential address gave a brief resume of the rehabilitation programmes meant for widows and destitute. He also presented vote of thanks.

Mohammad Yaqoob Reshi General Secretary JKYF presented detailed account of the JKYF's welfare and rehabilitation programmes for the fiscal 2012-13. He informed that over Rs. 3.80 crores have been spent on welfare and rehabilitation programmes during 2013 while as Rs. 4.40 crores have been received as donations during the said period.

JKYF's new website www.jkyateemfoundaion.org was presented on the occasion. 'Taranai Bait-ul-Hilal' written by Rafiq Tahir Kawachecki and sung by prominent Kashmiri Singer Waheed Jeealani, and film on 'Together With Orphans, Widows and Destitute' were screened on the occasion.

Earlier, the Chief Guest inaugurated the photo exhibition titled 'Together with Orphans, Widows and Destitute' and also released the Annual Report Ehsaas 2013.

Zubair Mustafa Check of Bait-ul-Hilal recited verses form Holy Qur'an while Mujtahidul Haq, another Bait-ul-Hilal resident recited the Naa't. Javaid Jawad CEC Member JKYF conducted the proceedings.
